I loved this movie. I loved the story, THE COSTUMES, the visual spectacle. JOHNNY DEPP, inspired as usual and totally bat shit crazy as the Mad Hatter. Even the soundtrack was beautiful. I shed a few tears before it ended. A friend of mine mentioned today that someone told him that Tim Burton had lost his magic touch. I completely disagree. His work has gotten more refined, more beautiful over time.
The story of Alice is one of those that many people either love or hate or simply refuse to even read because it is a complicated story layered again and again with symbolism and metaphor. It is based in this fantastic other world but the characters are going through all these human dramas. Once you get past all the curiousness and impossibility of it all, you get to this great message of believing in yourself and your dreams. And of course I appreciate the fact that the main character is a young woman.
Go see this movie. Do yourself a favor and read the original books: Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, read the book from the new movie which catches up with Alice on the edge of adulthood. If you find yourself a bit disappointed then take Alice's advice and find six impossible things to believe in before breakfast the very next day. Then go buy yourself a hat.
I am one that has not seen the animated movie or read the books ,,, but I was happy to see this movie in 3D. It was pretty great!! Johnny Depp played a fabulous Mad Hatter ,,, and the girl who play Alice did a fantastic job!
