A long time ago I met a lady named Sydney and I immediately took a liking to her. I am sure that I am not alone in that experience. She was working at that time doing spiritual readings for a little metaphysical bookstore called the Sun Sign. I was looking for answers after a number of run-ins with my so called life. Sydney was there to help me in more ways than I knew. I followed her around (not in a stalkerish way), went to her meditation groups, met so many of her wonderous friends. She taught me how to read my Tarot cards properly and gave me my first deck. We went to Arizona to hunt for crystals at what was then the largest gathering of crystal merchants in the western United States. We have known each other through marriages and divorce, loss of loved ones.
Sydney, for all the people who know me but do not know her, has had one of the biggest impacts on my life. You have her to thank for some of my more compassionate moments. A few years ago, through a series of moves, we lost touch briefly. I was really excited to find her on facebook. And I was equally saddened to hear that she was battling cancer. We have been able to exchange some emails and get caught up a little. But there is no real distance between friends, especially one as special as my Sydney.
Last week or so I was picking up around the house and I found this little black paper bag that is covered in victorian roses and butterflies. It says 'remember me' on on of the corners. Sydney gave it to me, what 15 or 20 years ago??? And for whatever reason my kids dragged it out to play with it and left it where I couldn't miss it.
Now it seems Sydney's cancer has spread and she is with her family in Colorado in hospice.
I will be thinking of Sydney and this family for a long time to come. And I might keep the little butterfly bag another 20 years but I won't need it to remember Sydney or her angels.
I'm very sorry to hear that your friend is battling cancer ,,, but I'm very glad that she came back into your life! You're right ... there is no distance with friends! My thoughts go out to you, Sydney and her family! xoxo
